Taste of Chicago

One of the most popular festivals in the city of Chicago starts this weekend. The Taste of Chicago takes place in Grant Park and features food from local restaurants as well as music and entertainment. Grant Park is located about 1 ½ to 2 miles south of the hotel and is accessible by taxi (approx. $10), bus or by walking (around 30 minutes). The festivities begin at 11:00am and run until around 8:30pm (6:00pm on the last day). The best part is that the festival is free!!! Tickets may be purchased at several booths in order to sample some of the local fare. Having been several times, I find the best time to go is early as the crowds will be slightly less than later in the day.

There are over 50 local food vendors that range from ribs to dessert. Ely’s cheesecake is one of the most popular attractions and believe me, there is a reason. Of course there is the traditional Chicago style pizza and hot dogs, but don’t miss out on the variety of international delights as well like the Star of Siam and Lao Sze Chuan.

Music ranges from country, rock and rock and roll to Celtic. Natalie Cole will be performing as well as the young Greyson Chance. One very popular evening includes highlights from some of the Broadway style shows playing in Chicago or coming soon. There is a Latino music themed evening as well as a Celtic themed night. Two stages will house all of these diverse acts.

I hope you can enjoy one of the most popular events in the city. Remember that it does get crowded and to keep hydrated (water, not beer!).

Enjoy!

Jeff
