One of the most beautifully located museums in Chicago is also one of the most popular as well. The Shedd Aquarium, located on museum campus, is one of my favorite places to visit in Chicago because of the incredible diversity of exhibits and displays as well as the view of the city and lake. Having just celebrated its 80th birthday, the Aquarium is one of the largest and oldest in the nation.
The Shedd houses all sorts of marine wildlife and is known as one of the only aquariums to train and house the beautiful beluga whales. The whales as well as other sea mammals including dolphins and penguins have become part of one of the more popular shows at the Shedd called “Fantasea”. There are many other shows and exhibits that are all included in your VIP ticket which can be purchased through the concierge desk. The VIP ticket includes front-of-line privileges and most of the exhibits. There is a 4-D movie that can be added for an addition $4.95 at the aquarium (I won’t tell you why it is 4-D; just say that it is a fun way to enjoy sea life).
My favorite exhibit has to be the sea horse and sea dragon aquariums. They have a beautiful display of some of my favorite sea animals. The Shedd also has one of the most photogenic views of the city in my opinion, right out the front doors.
